PAROLE IN PLACE, WHICH HAS HISTORICALLY BEEN A DISCRETIONARY MEASURE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY (DHS), PERMITS SOME UNDOCUMENTED FAMILY MEMBERS OF AMERICAN MILITARY PERSONNEL TO STAY IN THE COUNTRY AND CHANGE THEIR IMMIGRATION STATUS WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT BEING DEPORTED. SINCE IT EXCLUSIVELY BENEFITED VETERANS. SELECTED RESERVE MEMBERS OF THE READY AND RESERVE, AND THE FAMILIES OF ACTIVE - DUTY MILITARY PEOPLE, IT HAD BEEN A LIMITED PROSPECT.
REGARDLESS OF THE CITIZEN'S STSTUS IN THE MILITARY, THE NEW EXECUTIVE ORDER BROADENS PIP TO COVER SPOUSES OF U.S. CITIZENS. THIS RULING PERMITS ELIGIBLE SPOUSES TO APPLY FOR PIP, WHICH PROVIDES THEM WITH WORK AUTHORIZATION AND TEMPORARY LEGAL STSTUS, ENABLING THEM TO REMAIN AND WORK IN THE UNITED STATES WHILE THEIR IMMIGRATION STSTUS IS BEING PROCESSED.
A PROCESS THAT NOW ALLOWS CERTAIN NONCITIZEN SPOUSES AND STEPCHILDREN OF U.S. CITIZENS TO APPLY FOR PAROLE IN PLACE, MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO APPLY FOR LAWFUL PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS WITHOUT HAVING TO LEAVE THE U.S. AND BE SEPARATED FROM THEIR FAMILIES. KEEPING FAMILIES TOGETHER WHILE NAVIGATING THE IMMIGRATION JOURNEY JUST GOT A LITTLE EASIER.
